Hypor Customer Leader in Alberta Industry
Partners in Pork and Baas Farms Big Winners

Hypor is pleased to acknowledge the outstanding performance of Partner’s in Pork’s Baas Farms at the recent Alberta Pork Congress held in Red Deer. Baas Farms owned and operated by Roelof and Hennie Baas walked away with two of Olymel’s Reach for the Top awards and was a contender in one more of the five categories presented by the national meat packer at the Congress Banquet.
The third annual Olymel performance awards highlight top producers in five categories: High Health, Core Weight, 60/66 Lean, High Index and Grand Champion. To qualify for the competition, producers must ship a minimum of 2500 hogs per year to the Olymel plant in Red Deer, AB. Points are allotted in each category for every load shipped and winners are announced during the Alberta Pork Congress. The Baas family accepted the Highest Index Award and the prestigious Grand Champion Award for top overall performance. They were also recognized for their second place ranking in the Core Weight category.
Baas Farms raises feeder pigs supplied by the Partners in Pork (PIP) group of Rimbey, AB and ships 5400 market hogs a year exclusively to the Olymel plant. The 3600 sow PIP system ships its entire production to this facility.
Partners in Pork stocked their first farrowing facility with the Hypor commercial sow in 1994 and have continued to expand their operation with the Hypor lines. The Hypor Duroc sire on the Hypor parent stock female is a favoured combination for this system and has made a significant contribution to their current achievements.
“We are extremely proud of the success Baas Farms and PIP have achieved with our genetics,” said Gerjan van Alst, Hypor General Manager, Americas. “They are maximizing the potential of the animal through exceptional management and are being recognized by their packer for providing them with a high quality product.”
Hypor is one of the world's leading suppliers of swine genetics. Hypor is committed to providing superior genetics, which support profitability in the pork meat value chain. With its head office located in Regina, Saskatchewan Canada, the company has strategically located breeding centers in North America, Europe and Asia.
