Suinprod Roman

One of the largest, locally-owned integrated pork production systems in Romania is the first company to import Hypor genetics into that country. Suinprod Roman, part of the Kosarom Group of Companies, accepted deliveries of Hypor breeding stock from August through to October, 2005. Supplied from Hypor Spain’s high health genetic nucleus, the 175 GP females and 11 boars were introduced into Suinprod’s 3000 sow integrated system.

“These Hypor breeding stock deliveries into another main pig producing country augment Hypor’s reputation of the world’s local breeder,” said Geert Rutten, Manager Hypor International.

The Romania pork production industry is determined to build a domestic supply of quality swine meat for processing in their country. Overall pork meat production has increased in the past couple of years and Suinprod Roman is taking the lead in bringing Romania to self-sufficiency. As they develop and expand, there is a focused effort on improving production efficiency and carcass quality.

The country is working towards membership in the European Union by early 2007 and the ability of domestic firms to compete both at home and in other European markets will depend on whether their production can meet strict EU quality standards.

“A combination of market conditions in Romania and the confidence that Suinprod has expressed in Hypor genetics opens opportunities for both our organizations,” said Enrique Satue General Manager Hypor Spain. “The performance of the Hypor lines will accelerate Suinprod’s targeted growth and potential, and ensure that our organization will provide a significant contribution to this industries growth.
