Pork Industry honours Innovators at Banff Pork Seminar

The Alberta Pork industry applauded three industry innovators at the 35th Annual Banff Pork Seminar January 19th in Banff. And Hypor's Tony Charanduk was acknowledged in front of his peers as a deserving recipient when he was presented the 2006 Dr. F.X. Aherne Prize for Innovative Pork Production.

The Dr. F.X. Aherne Prize for Innovative Pork Production was developed as a forum for the Alberta industry to acknowledge the practical and resourceful innovations of Western Canadian pork producers, herdspeople and their consultants. This year’s award was presented to Hypor’s AI stud manager, Tony Charanduk for the development of Hypor’s Accelerated Boar Training Program.

The basic concept behind the system is to “let the boars train the boars”. Hypor president Dave Libertini nominated Charanduk believing that his common sense approach to boar training by using the animal’s natural competitive instincts made him a strong contender for the award. The judging committee agreed.
