Dr. Patrick Charagu

Geneticist Hypor

Dr. Patrick K. Charagu joined the Hypor research and development group from Lethbridge, Alberta, in early 2002, where he had been involved in research in beef cattle genetics, mostly in carcass and meat quality traits.
Dr. Charagu was born in Kenya, where he took most of his early education. Having received his Bachelors of Science in Agriculture (Hons.) and a Master of Science in Animal Science, Genetics and Animal Breeding, from the University of Nairobi, Kenya in 1992, he earned his PhD. in Animal Science, Genetics and Animal Breeding, from the University of British Columbia in 1998.  Thereafter he did a postdoctoral research fellowship with Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada at the Lethbridge Research Centre.  Between 1992 and 2000 Dr. Charagu also held a faculty position in the Department of Animal Science, University of Nairobi.
The more than 15 years of professional research in animal science, including statistical analysis of scientific data coupled with a practical approach to genetic improvement certainly has made him a valued member of Hypor's international Research and Development team.  Dr. Charagu is currently responsible for the Hypor’s genetic programs in both North America and China.
